Pseudo Training Devices

So a man had a problem with his dog. (This is a true story). When going out the front door, if the dog saw a squirrel, he tended to bolt off the leash. The man decided to try a shock collar to train his dog. The next time the dog bolted, he shocked him. The dog squealed in pain. From that day on, the dog refused to go out the front door. The dog had learned nothing except there was something terrible, painful, and scary out that front door. People may have good intentions and be trying to protect their animals with these devices. But they do not constitute training, despite the claims of their makers. Go to www.positively.com to learn how to train your dog compassionately, and in such a way that you will have their cooperation and love for as long as he or she lives. (Story is from "Decoding Your Dog," by The American College of Veterinary Behaviorists)
